MEREDITH WELCH
Hello!
My name is Meredith Welch

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Postsecondary Education & Economics Research (PEER) Center at American University.
I received my PhD from the Brooks School of Public Policy at Cornell University in 2025.

I am an applied microeconomist studying issues in labor economics, the economics of education, and consumer finance. A large portion of my current work focuses on the ways that student loan policies affect vulnerable borrowers’ labor market outcomes, financial health, and overall well-being. I also have projects that study the interaction of higher education policy with social safety net programs and the causes and consequences of gender disparities in education and the labor market.
